Seems like everywhere we look people are reminding us to wash our hands. Celebrities are singing their hit tunes and encouraging folks to sing along as they scrub. There are diagrams and instructional videos, all of which are amazing.
But the frequency with which we scrub often leaves our hands chapped because the soap doesn’t just do away with the germs – it also strips our skin of its natural oils.
Good thing we have all-natural healing herbs that are fast-acting and effective — like calendula!
Calendula is the crown jewel of herbal skincare because it is soothing for a range of problems. From rashes to burns to bug bites and even scarring — calendula is a heal-all herb. And it’s totally safe for babies, the elderly, and everyone in between.
You can bring calendula’s healing properties into your everyday life and soothe your hands after each wash by making this incredibly simple herb-infused lotion.
Calendula Lotion
Calendula lotion is a magical mixture of calendula-infused oil and calendula tea!
Start by preparing the calendula-infused oil with these ingredients:
- ½ cup dried calendula flowers
- ½ cup sunflower oil
- ¼ cup coconut oil
- ¼ cup shea butter
Here’s how to make it:
- Melt the coconut oil and shea butter
- Add in the sunflower oil
- Sprinkle in the calendula flowers and stir the mixture
- Warm over medium-low heat for at least 30 minutes
- Strain out the petals
- Put the oil into the freezer and allow it to harden
Then make a strong calendula tea with these ingredients:
- ½ cup dried calendula flowers
- 2 cups of water
Here’s how to make it:
- Cover the calendula flowers with the water and stir
- Warm over medium-low heat for at least 30 minutes
- Strain out the petals
Then the magic happens!
- Spoon the hardened calendula-infused oil into a blender
- Turn the blender on high
- Slowly add in the calendula tea
- Blend on the highest setting until the tea water and oil coagulate
- Bottle the mixture and keep it in the fridge
Easy peasy, right? Enjoy!
